My name is Alex Lampard and I have been restoring modern and antique furniture for over 30 years. I started my career in Hampshire as an apprentice in an antique dealer’s workshop making bespoke furniture as well as restoring mostly 18th and 19th century furniture, so my training was in both cabinet making and antique restoration. I then went to work for other commercial antique restorers, where I developed my skills and expanded my training in French polishing. I moved to Devon in 2000 and have been working on a self-employed basis in a couple of different locations before settling in my workshop in Copplestone. 

Having a passion and appreciation of furniture and craftsmanship is what drives and inspires me, where so much is seen as disposable today, professionally restored a 200-year-old piece of furniture can go on to last for generations to come. I also enjoy the variety of the work it brings in, from kitchen, dining, and all other styles of chairs, desks of all sorts tables of all shapes and sizes, grandfather clocks to mantle clocks to the interior of a 1920s Pullman railway carriage, even a ceremonial hat box, you never know what’s coming in next. Although my training was in antique furniture, I restore furniture of all ages and styles.

Copplestone is a small mid Devon village that sits midway between Exeter and Barnstaple on the A377 and the workshop has good access off the main road and plenty of FREE off-street parking.

All aspects of restoration are catered for, whether it’s a wobbly chair, a loose joint on a piece of furniture, or any broken furniture that needs new parts. Missing mouldings can be replaced, and poorly running drawers can be made to run smooth again. From dog-chewed rails to a complete rebuild, all furniture is professionally restored to return it to its former self.

Wax, oil and modern hard finishes all available to ensure the correct finish for the piece.
Whether removing damage or revitalising a good finish helps to enhance and bring out the beauty of your furniture.

Missing handles, locks, castors etc. are replaced and blended to suit the patina of the original.

Key cutting (for certain locks)

Bureau, writing box, desk leathers and any furniture leather can be replaced with a choice of colour and tooling.
Baize replaced on card tables etc.

Cleaning and Polishing of Built in cupboards, handrails, panelling etc undertaken
Occasionally it can be better to do the repair in-situ rather than remove the piece to the workshop

Insurance work and removal damage undertaken with written quotations given.
